Quad Biking Cape Town for First-Time Riders

Most people who ride at Atlantis have never been on a quad bike. The machines are automatic, the training happens on flat sand before anything steep, and the guide rides ahead of you at a pace the group can actually hold.

What the training actually covers

Before the dunes, you learn the throttle, the brakes, how to turn on loose sand and, most importantly, how to shift your body weight. Sand riding is a weight-transfer sport: lean forward going up, back coming down, and into the turn rather than away from it.

You will do laps on flat sand until the guide is satisfied that everyone can start, stop and steer under control. Only then does the group head out.

The three beginner mistakes

First, gripping the bars rigidly — tension makes the quad harder to steer, not easier. Second, backing off the throttle halfway up a dune, which is the surest way to bog down. Third, staring at the obstacle instead of the line you want; the quad follows your eyes.

How to make your first ride easier

Book a morning slot when the wind is usually lighter. Choose a private departure if you would rather not ride at a stranger's pace. Eat something beforehand, hydrate, and tell your guide honestly that it is your first time — the route can be adjusted, but only if we know.

Next step

Prices always include the compulsory reserve permit as a separate line, so the total you see is the total you pay.
