One or two hours, private or shared

Birthday Quad Biking Cape Town

A birthday group is rarely one skill level. There is usually someone who wants the steepest line on the dune and someone who has never touched a throttle, and the day works or fails on how well that gap is managed.

About this experience

We handle it by running celebrations as private departures wherever possible, splitting the group across guides by confidence rather than by who arrived together, and keeping the photo stops long enough for the group to regroup properly.

Tell us whose birthday it is and what the group actually wants — a hard ride, a relaxed one, or enough time on the ridge for decent photographs — and the departure is built around that.

Rider requirements

  • Riders must be able to reach and operate the handlebar controls comfortably.
  • Children ride as passengers with a guide or adult rider where permitted on the day.
  • No alcohol or drugs before or during the ride.
  • Closed shoes, long trousers and sunglasses or goggles are strongly recommended.
  • A signed indemnity is required from every rider or their guardian before departure.

Full detail on briefings, gear and reserve rules is on the quad biking safety page.

What to wear

Closed shoes, long trousers, a light jacket for the wind off the Atlantic, sunglasses or goggles, sunscreen and a buff or scarf for fine sand. Leave loose scarves and jewellery in the car. Full guidance is in the what to wear at Atlantis Dunes guide.

How booking works

  1. Send an availability request with your date, riders and transfer requirement.
  2. We confirm the departure slot and permit availability in writing.
  3. You receive a written total, including the compulsory reserve permit.
  4. Arrive, complete the indemnity, get fitted and trained, then ride.

All departures are subject to daily reserve permit availability.

Cancellation in short

Reschedules are free with sufficient notice, and rides cancelled by the reserve or by unsafe weather are rescheduled or refunded. Read the cancellation policy and refund policy in full before booking.

Where you ride

Atlantis Dunes sit inside the Witzands Aquifer Nature Reserve, approximately 45–60 minutes from central Cape Town, depending on traffic. The exact meeting point inside the reserve is confirmed with your booking, because the staging area moves with wind and dune conditions. See directions to Atlantis Dunes.

Birthday and celebration questions

Can non-riders come along to watch?
Spectators still need a reserve permit to enter, so include them in your numbers when you enquire.
Can we bring cake or decorations?
The reserve is a conservation area, so nothing may be left behind and open flames are not permitted. Small, packed-out celebrations are fine.
Is a private departure worth it for a birthday group?
For mixed-ability groups, usually yes — it removes the pressure of riding to a stranger's pace and makes the timing far more flexible.
