In the reserve

The Witzands Aquifer Nature Reserve protects a working aquifer and a mobile dune system, which is why access is permit-controlled and why vehicles stay in designated areas. Beyond riding, the draw is the landscape itself: white mobile dunes, fynbos margins and a surprising amount of birdlife along the edges.

Photography here is genuinely good, particularly in the last two hours of daylight. Drone use requires permission and is regulated by the reserve — ask before you fly.

Nearby on the West Coast

Silwerstroomstrand is minutes away for a cold-water swim and a picnic. Melkbosstrand, on the way back to the city, is the usual stop for lunch and a view across to Table Mountain. Further north, the West Coast National Park is a full outing in its own right, especially in spring flower season.

Building a day around your ride

A practical plan: morning quad tour while the wind is down, lunch at Melkbosstrand, then either the beach or the drive home ahead of afternoon traffic. If you have booked transfers, tell us your plans in advance so the return timing works around them.
